There are many great voice coaches out there and finding the perfect match can feel overwhelming. This blog outlines how to find the best voice lessons to help you achieve your goals.
Here are a few suggestions to consider as you begin your vocal training journey with your ideal voice coach:
Find Teacher with a Similar Voice Range as You: The first helpful step is to seek out a teacher who has a similar voice range as you do. For example, if you are a baritone singer, look for an instructor who is also a baritone. While this is not a necessity in finding your perfect vocal coach, it may be helpful because your teacher may be able to share tips from personal experience. It is also good to connect with a teacher who studies the same genre in which you enjoy singing. For example, if you enjoy singing jazz, seek out a good jazz vocal instructor.
Add a bit of Piano Work: If you have limited experience, consider taking some piano lessons to help you understand intonation, pitch, rhythm and to get a well rounded understanding of music.
It is also a good idea to seek out an instructor who has at least a basic knowledge of music theory so that they can support your deepening understanding of music.
Communicate Your Goals: Finally, it is important to clarify your musical goals and to be sure to communicate them to your instructor and/or school administrator. The more they know about your goals and aspirations, the more they will be able to guide you to effectively reach and surpass them. A good instructor will support your musical goals and give you that extra push so that you can accomplish what you set out to do on your musical journey!
